The Voices Among Us Episode 17: Carlo

Hi, friends!

Welcome back to The Voices Among Us. This week, I am finally releasing my interview with Carlo. This one has been a long time coming. We recorded the episode once, then lost the audio file due to an error. It took a while to come around to doing a second take on the interview, but I think it turned out really well.
Carlo is a homeless man living in the New York area. He has a college education, a job and a computer.

Enjoy this interesting skype interview with Carlo and please let me know what you think in the comments, or on our facebook page.

Season 1 Retrospective

Hi, everyone!
It's been a while, but thank you so much for checking out this very special episode of The Voices Among Us Podcast. If you are a new listener, this is the perfect episode to start with and if you are a veteran listener, you should enjoy hearing some of the highlights from previous episodes.
Since I took a little break from the podcast and enjoyed my summer vacation, it seemed like the appropriate time to take a look back at the 16 episodes that have been released so far, as we look on to the future. What this episode essentially consists of is a countdown of some of my favorite moments from each episode of the show.
It would mean a great deal to me if you guys could introduce this episode to at least 1 new person in your life. Thanks so much and don't forget to like the podcast on facebook at http://facebook.com/thevoicesamongus!
As always, please comment, subscribe and share!

Get out there and listen,
Robert

The Voices Among Us Featured in CLU Magazine

Hi everyone!

We will be back on Monday with a new interview for you, but I wanted to share something great with you in the meantime. My alma mater, California Lutheran University puts out a magazine every few months and they ran a piece that I wrote about my experience creating this show. If you are interested in checking it out, see the article below. Thanks CLU!

The Voices Among Us Episode 16: Jim

homeless interview: Jim

Hey everyone!

Long time no see, my friends! Sorry AGAIN for the delay. I've been held up a bit by finals, sickness and other life stuff, but I'm back! Hopefully we can get back to consistent weekly interviews for you guys.

This episode is my on the street interview with a homeless man named Jim. He was a pretty harcore looking guy, but ended up being very personable and was an awesome guest for the show. He is trying hard to get back on his feet to continue pursuing his passions of tattooing and music. He has some serious talent as you can see the picture below.

Please take a minute to like the facebook page and please consider sharing this post on your timeline.

Thanks so much, guys!

Get out there and listen,
Robert

The Voices Among Us Episode 15: Becky Blanton

Becky Blanton

Sorry for the delay, my friends! Had to wait for the new month to roll around for more space from my hosting site... fun stuff!

All of that aside, I have an awesome skype interview for you today with Becky Blanton. She is a writer and a formerly homeless individual who went from being a successful freelancer to living out of a van with her dog and cat. In the end, she found herself standing in front of a crowd, recounting her story at a TED conference in Oxford, England. She is a very inspirational person and I hope you get as much out of her story as I did!

Here's a link to Becky's TED talk: The Year I was Homeless

There will be more links on this page when Becky's website comes back up!

The Voices Among Us Episode 14: Mozart Guerrier

Hey, everybody!

Thanks so much for joining me for another awesome interview this week. Sorry for taking a week off, but I hope this awesome interview with Mozart Guerrier from Aunt Bertha.

Before going into the interview, I talk a little bit about some soul searching that I did in regards to this podcast. Though it may not be obvious to all of you, I feel as though the true mission of this show has become a little muddled in my mind and I am going to be trying to reconnect with that mission.

Here are a few things that this podcast is not all about: making me money, getting millions of listeners, establishing a "brand", or sugar coating anything.

Here are a few things that this podcast is all about: being real and authentic, spreading awareness of homelessness, encouraging people to listen, and to highlight the lessons we can learn from the stories that are presented on this show.

Thank you so very much to everyone who has listened from the start and to anyone who has recently started listening. Your time is so valuable and I am constantly amazed that so many people are willing to take some of that time and listen to these stories.

One final note- if you have left a review on the iTunes page for this podcast in a country other than USA, please shoot a quick email to robert@homelessinterview.com and let me know! It is very hard to keep track of these reviews, because there is no way for me to be notified of them. That being said... THANK YOU!!! I can't believe that the voices of my interviewees are being heard around the world!

Enjoy the interview, folks!

Get out there and listen,
Robert

New Logo and Explicit Tags in iTunes

Explicit or real?

Just wanted to give a mid-week update to let you know of a few changes going on. If you listened to the most recent episode of the podcast, then you already know that we have switched to an "explicit" podcast in iTunes. I want to clarify that this does not mean every episode is going to be completely profane or vulgar. To be honest, I went back and forth on this decision. I want The Voices Among Us to be accessible to people of all ages, but what has become more important to me is the issue of authenticity. Listening back to old episodes of the show, I felt that the editing that I found myself doing was taking away from the overall effect of the interviews. The conversations that I have are real. It's me sitting at a table, or standing, or sitting on a curb with a homeless person, getting to know them. As such, I feel a responsibility to share their voices exactly as they are. I wish I could go in and change the tag, which is now on every episode, from "explicit" to "real."

New Logo

The Voices Among Us Podcast Logo

The other change that has happened has to do with the look and branding of the podcast. I'm no graphic designer, but I think I did alright with this round of changes. The overall redesign of the site will be ongoing, but I hope you like the progress so far! If you are wondering who the mystery man is in the header and the new logo, it's actually Steve from Episode 5. When I have some time (ie. not in class) I'm going to put a button version of the logo in the sidebar that you can feel free to use anywhere you would like. Just be sure to link back :).

Well, thanks for the continued support! I look forward to going out there and getting you an awesome interview for this week.

Get out there and listen,
Robert
